So... What M16s out there are worth owning?
I've heard the Marui M16A2 (with the EG1000 motor) is a beast and that the barrel wobble can be fixed by just keeping the screws at the base of the inner barrel tight.
Marui's M16A1/VN have more significant barrel wobble and the EG700 motor isn't as solid as the EG1000.
KWA's M16 looks solid but it fires, stock, about .4 joules beyond the IAA rules allow.
Any other M16s out there that anyone has experience with?

The Best! KWA M16 -smaller M120 spring shoots just under 400 FPS. Classic Army second best.

How's the metal content on that KWA?
Me buying a non-Marui is a stretch, so I need to be convinced. ;-)

metal content = supurb
The metal work is awesome, very strong and has some weight to it. All metal except pistol grip, front hand guard, and stock.
For $300 you get upgraded internals which uses the same gearbox design as the Marui's. Stash's gearbox is the same as both of the KWA's. The M16 version is also shimless too.

So, Jinx, the KWAs come Lipo-ready... If I use a 9.4v NIMH battery would the gun still rock or would it lose a lot of the muscle?
I have too much invested in chargers and what-not plus I'm a Conservative so I resist change - I want to use the NIMHs that I know and love.
So, it says 450fps stock... You're saying I'd need a different downgraded spring? Just want to make sure I'm getting the right junk. Also, just to be different, I'm going to get a box set of the short, silver, Vietnam-era 20 round magazines (the airsoft versions hold more, the real steel is 20 round). Then, just to be even more different, I may end up buying a bandoleer for my M16 mags. This might make my kit slightly less 1994 and more 1983, but it should still work.
I'm still undecided on the KWA for sure... I'm such a Marui whore.
For the record, if I can find a used PDI Zero Chamber Block to help remove my barrel wobble I might get the TM M16A1 just so I have the triangular foregrip.

Also, Jinx, and this is a hypothetical question since I'm not sure if this is the route I am taking...
If I were to buy a G&P metal body and a G&P metal foregrip set (which I'd need to do for a TM anyways) I'd be spending about $230 replacing the body of the gun... Is there anywhere that I can just buy the internals and, you know, build the gun from scratch? lol

Sorry for trolling, but I thought this was worth mentioning. Support at Redwolf Airsoft contacted me and directed me towards this gun: redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/ProductDetail?prodID=25182Since the TM M16A1/VN versions, well, suck, Redwolf has put together a custom gun using a full metal body, a one-piece front barrel, and the internals include an M120 high-speed motor and a barrel velocity of 370fps. For $224 this is a very, very solid-looking gun from the guys at Redwolf. Note, Redwolf also has a Vietnam-era XM177E (or whatever the designation was...) for the same price: redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/ProductDetail?prodID=25196I am not 100% positive that the AEG is full-metal since it doesn't specify, so I may send an e-mail to get clarification.

The KWA will run smooth on a 9.6, it's just the internals that make it lipo ready so a 9.5 should make it run longer without any hiccups. The FPS is too high, it's more 420-430 in some cases. Mine came at 414-415 but its at 399 right now with a M120 spring.
I would check the maker of the metal body, I think it might be G&P and also remember if customs find the trademarks they will burn or scratch them off so there goes the cool trademarks and metal body.

I've now ordered an M14, an SR16, an AK, and MC51, and an Uzi - all shipped overseas - and All of them have made it through customs thanks to tape over the trademarks. ;-)

how about the JG M16 2008 upgraded version ?

You know, some of those clones are pretty solid guns... I'm not familiar with the JG specifically but I know some of the Echo 1 guns are decent.
Here's my biggest fear... Clones are, by definition, cheaply built. An M16 is a LOOOOOONG gun. Tokyo Marui, who many feel are the Honda of airsoft guns (they last forever), have had tons of problems with their m16 series because of the fact it's hard to make a long sturdy gun.
So, I'd be worried about getting a big gun like an M16 in clone form. The M4s, however, are a different beast altogether.

Just a note, in the IAA if you're planning on buying a gun with a hi-cap magazine make sure that you only buy standard capacity (i.e. non-winding) magazines as extras. VERY few IAA events will ever allow multiple hi-caps. Plus they detract from the milsim aspect of the game.
Not a big issue... A box of 6-10 M16 magazines aren't very expensive.
