man it all depends on who makes the gun when it comes to airsoft are we talking Classic Army, Tokyo Mauri, Jing Gong, D Boys, the lits goes on and on we need to know what models oyur looking at so we can compare them i know from exprience that the M16 is EXTREMELY LONG, i know this because it was the first airsoft gun i ever played with this in turn, i think would mean a longer barrel (dont qoute me on it a longer barrel usually mean better range, accuaracy and higher FPS, not always though

In airsoft, all the rules and dynamics of real steel go right out the window. Any gun can out-perform any other. The M16 version has a 509mm barrel and the the AK has a 455mm barrel and in the world of airsoft that extra 2 inches won't do anything for accuracy or range.
Airsoft guns are rated on quality. That means the quality of internals and materials used. The AR series use a Ver.2 gearbox which has its weak points(mainly around the cylinder head part)and have been known to break under stress. Companies have improved the quality of metal used and have reienforced it but it still happens. The AK uses a Ver.3 gearbox which is known to be stronger and a bit eaiser to upgrade and has better compression than other gearboxes.
These are the only differences that these gun have when it comes to performance and quality wise. It all depends on what you prefer. The M16 has more of a rifle feel to it and the AK has more of a machine gun feel to it.
