So, let me get this straight... You think our "try out" procedures are sketchy somehow? Given the nature of airsoft we're simply trying to make sure that we don't have people running around our fields who aren't responsible or who will ruin the fun for everyone else in attendance.
We don't have any snipers (yet) because, as any airsoft vet will attest, the value of snipers is very limited, ESPECIALLY this time of year. During the fall the winds tend to be a little harder and more sustained leaving even a 500fps TM M14 with a 6.01 tightbore with a range marginally better then a stock M4. We have one guy who is currently outfitting himself with a sniper kit (or looking into it) and another who is in the process of putting together a second sniper set-up and both are looking at $400+ on a gun plus another $200+ on upgrades. With a small squad it's significantly more important for us to have riflemen.
The IAA events are hosted through the IAA, not us. if you plan on attending any of those events and you're not a Ruff Ryder then you need to register with the IAA and talk to them about coming. We don't vouch for individuals who we haven't played with.
We mean no disrespect by having a set series of steps in order to become a member. Airsoft, by nature, is a PR disaster waiting to happen. If we have one member who takes an airsoft gun to school, for example, we could have our entire team banned by the IAA which would leave us playing 3-on-3 backyard airsoft for the rest of our lives. We need to make sure we can vouch for the people on our team, and we won't ever bend on that point.

well no need go go all tecnical and by schetcy i mean i am coming from a paintball background for he last 4 in division one tournament ball playing for almost semi pro teams i have had multipule thousand dollar equipment and how to take care of it and know what the consiquences are if care is not taken i know wind and how to guage it and if i also know money dose not matter i have seen a crazy man take out a entire squad with a wallmart gun before yes i play with a 120 sniper rifle but it works and thats a fact i no this means nothing to you but i know what your talking about, and the use of snipers are NOT LIMITED ESPECIALLY THIS TIME OF YEAR (due to the fact that i happen to be in good relations with some actual snipers they have showd me a trick or to on cammo especially with stuffing leaves i happen to know a thing or two about tactical movement seeing as the last time the marines came out to action park and the last time i have gone shooting the instructors and a SBPD SWAT MEMBER have been more than happy to show how to move shoot clear and strategically engage) my load out has always been sniper and always will be and i can proove it at the last large event when warm out OP: Codename Thunder 4 we had the airsoft vets begging for sniper squad 2-1 so they could enter the castle and retrieve drugs while using us to keep the cartel back and i am looking into a g&g Gr-25 a 400 dollar gun also with a 6.04 tight bore barrel and am looking at some gearboxes two also a new high tourque motor and a 4x32 scope seeing as the range is under 200 ft it makes no sence to have more
dont get me rong, cheese? i mean all the respect to you and your team but im not four and dont mean to come across like im four but i happen to know quite alot about airsoft and it kinda pissed me off there to read that now i got that off my chest so i apologize for my words if they offend you in any way so sorr

Well, what you seem to be missing the point on here is the whole idea of recruitment. When we recruit 99% of what we look for is someone who is going to be a team player, is responsible, etc. Responsible doesn't mean you're able to take care of your equipment, it means you know better then to do something irresponsible like not keeping your gun in a case, improper eye protection, running around shooting people on the street to post on youtube, etc. We've never implied that yo uwould do any of those things, but anytime we recruit people that don't have a personal connection to us (i.e. pulling people off of the street that we've never interacted with before) we CAN'T vouch for their character.
I'm sure you were a great paintball player and I'm sure you're great with your $120 sniper rifle, but none of that matters to us beyond whether or not you're the kind of person we want to run with on our very tight-knit squad. I'm sure you've learned a lot from your associations with the SBPD sniper but in the IAA we run with a guy who has commanded troops on the ground since Desert Storm, an entire team in Lafayette trained by a British military officer who was stateside pursuing a degree, and dozens of active and former military personnel. We're not knocking your experience, but coming onto our forums and using that experience to presume that our "sketchy" recruitment guidelines don't apply to you is definitely not the best way to get into our aforementioned good graces.
Airsoft is a PR disaster waiting to happen. Every time any story hits the news that involves airsoft guns it sends a chill down the spine of everyone in the IAA. We're not accusing you of being immature, but you have to understand that a bunch of 28-year olds are going to automatically be skeptical of any 16-year old kid. I'm a teacher, I'm around 16-year olds all day, and I certainly wouldn't want any of them on my airsoft squad. We don't assume anyone is immature, but we expect all underage persons to at least make the effort to prove to us you aren't. This typically requires a polite, civil tone. And occasional punctuation.
What I would recommend, rather then attempting to join our squad, is to assemble a squad of your own. Join the IAA (do a google search for Indiana Airsoft Association) and operate as a separate entity within that framework. All of our underage members are basically blood-related to older members, and our team tends to focus on the over-18 crowd (since many IAA events don't even allow attendance by minors).
