Hey guys. I've been very interested in getting into the game since last summer and found you guys here as the season was winding down. This year I am taking the plunge and getting into the game early. Seems like a good group of people on here and I would be very interested to see if we click. Like I said I am new to A.S. but have played paintball and love strategy games of all kinds(esp zero hour on my mac). I am a youthful 36, have my weekends mostly free, and am a very responsible guy. I run an after school program, teach bass guitar lessons, have a part time pet sitting business, do music writing for in Michiana mag, and DJ. I stay busy but like to play hard as often as possible.
I have had some time to do some research and have found a decent first AEG with great reviews that I plan to get soon(http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_200&products_id=2610 ), and will be looking for a local crew to roll with as soon as I do. The only thing that has stopped me from ordering it is after reading the I.A.A. rules I realized the AEG I want might not be allowed on I.A.A. rule governed fields should it Chrono over 400 FPS (which this model does fairly often when new even though it is rated at 400). I was hoping to make the section 8 noob day on March 28th(http://indiana-airsoft.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=325) that is happening down by Lafayette but now realize the AEG I am about to get may need a mod already.
Does anyone know if it is possible to mod an AEG to reduce the FPS by 10-25 feet so it would be I.A.A. field legal? Is this a hard, expensive, or time consuming project? Is there anyone locally that would know how to do this? I'm trying to make the next move here and get in the game asap but I want to make it smartly. Any tips are appreciated. I really want this AEG as it seems to have the best internals/reliability at this proce bracket. I hope I can get this figured out and that we get a chance to meet sometime soon, maybe at the noob day if any of you are going. (looks like it will be a big game down there with lots of vets in the mix). Thanks, Sean

Welcome to the forums, it's been a bit since I've been on the forums. Sounds excellent that you want to attend Noob Day in Lafyette. My brother and I will be attending also so your 1 more man to roll with.
Your gun selection shouldn't keep you off the field because of the FPS limit. You can modify your gun to shoot less than 400 and takes a little mechanical and memorization for you to do it. It's not hard just time consuming. Also some more mags (some high caps) should do you good as 200 rounds will go by quickly. Also invest in batteries as the more you have the better. If you need any tips on breaking down a gearbox or putting the gun back together pm me. Thanks
Oh and check out airsoftatlanta.com, shipping is cheaper and it's 2 day shipping instead of 4-5 days from Cali.

Thanks for the fast reply and the tips. Cool you guys are going to the Lafaytette event too. I may end up pm'ing you for more tips since I'm such a noob. First I gotta get the my order here as well as the other essentials-BB's, goggles, mags, batteries, etc. Trying to get it all shipped here for next weekend and Atlanta Airsoft is out of some of what I'll need. I decided to go w/ the Echo 1 Aug Phantom 1 to make sure I can get in the game as far as fps goes too. They were out of the mags and batteries I needed though. Anyone have any tips on good brands/fast shipping retailers for mini 8.4 1500 batteries, AUG mags? Good reliable brands of BB's(prefferably bio-degradeable)?
Also I was wondering if the inexpensive goggles on the airsoft atlanta site meet the requirements of the IAA. I was looking at these-http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/safety.htm the ones I was wondering about were the two that were $12.99 and $14.99. There was something about venting on the IAA page and have no idea what stuff is properly vented and what isn't so any tips are appreciated. Lastly I was wondering if any one here has had any work done at Great Lakes Airsoft in Kalamazoo. I talked to the guy there(Caleb, its his out of home business) who seemed very knowledgable and helpful. After I get my AUG I want to upgrade it and am looking for a skilled tech in the area so any feedback on this is appreciated too. Thanks again, Noobs need all the help they can get.

That AUG will serve you well ;D, I love the bullpup design and the comfort of carrying the gun. Works awesome in woodland and long range shots. Airsoft gi sells the 9.6 custom AUG battery for $50. Cheapbatterypacks can make you that exact one for $30 less shipping. You would just need to send them a picture of the airsoft gi version because their current configirations wont work. I actually have a box of 5 king arms 110rd Mags that I can sell to you for $35 if you want them. Their one of the only midcap mags on the market and they retail for $50. I had sold my other box later last year but have had the other box left over. Plus I have an extra hi cap I can give ya just to get rid of it.
The goggles you were looking at I would choose the UTG pair. I have the other pair(more like sunglasses) and they rock but they are a pain to wear after a couple hours. The padding sucks around the bridge and can dig in to the top of your nose. I've switched over to ESS low profile like the UTG pair and they work fine.
Upgrades on the AUG are easy but a pain in the ass to get right sometimes. It uses the version 3 gearbox which is super sturdy but the way the AUG is designed to use it it become's complicated sometimes to get it right. The trigger mech. is different from other Ver.3's. That because your selection switch is all in the trigger and not as a lever. The AUG uses the pull slightly for semi and pull all the way for auto. Other than that it's a breeze upgrading. I upgraded mine to 400 FPS but I've dropped it a couple times and the quality of plastic is cheap so it cracked causing it to loose air compression so my current one is just junk now.

You guys are so helpful, thanks! I live in South Bend so yeah car pooling sounds great and I'll kick down some gas $ too. I'll just drive out to Granger and meet you if you let me know where. Also Jinx I am stoked you have those mags for sale. I was looking at those same ones, were they pretty reliable for you? I will take em off your hands for sure but if you know of better ones I would like to know that too. Let me know how we can make that happen before next weekend. Yeah I am really settling into the idea of the AUG, I like that I can put a longer barrel in it but not have it be as huge as say a PSG-1. I did find a guy(the one mentioned in previous post) who can do super hot rodded bar 10's near here, at some point if I find I am getting enough use out of my stuff I will upgrade to one of those and smaller side arm. For now this seemed to be the more cost effective way to get in the game and have something that would function at a ok range but hold its on in close up action. Glad this stuff is finally coming together, thanks again for the help!

They they worked great for the 2-3 times that I used them before the AUG broke down. They never jammed on me and they fit like a glove in the JG/Echo 1 AUG's. Their semi clear but very tinted but that's how the real Mag's are so your able to look down and see how many bb's you have left.
If your going down to the game with Stash you could pick them up at the game.

Cool, I will bring some money for ya and pick them up at the game. Please don't forget them or I will be stuck with just the one mag which would be sorry. Getting psyched for next weekend!

We can meet at the new martins on main & 23. I don't live far from there and we can go from there. I would say a good meet up time is 7:30. I drive a white grand prix with dark tinted windows. My cell is 574-315-0083

So I got my stuff from airsoft Atlanta. Very fast shipping, and I dig my AUG quite a bit. Nice balance of close in and potentially further range after the mods I hope to get. I gotta ask you JiNX when you got your was it all over the place when you first shot it in stock condition? Man, its very innaccurate and spitting BB's all over and I'm not sure how much of that is just the fact I havn't tweaked it yet with mods. Many bb's are not going far and many are, its weird. It will probably keep me in the game if I don't engage at real far distances. I am hoping someone can school me on the basics, lubeing it and such. That may help it, I know some AEG's need to be cleaned when they first arrive. Also I got .25's but I'm thinking til I get my mods I need to probably use .20's as the .25's seem to be heavier than what it wants now.
The other thing I was wondering about JiNXwas that you mentioned you had an AUG that lost compression because of a cracked stock. The one they shipped me has a small and potentially liveable crack in the stock near the butt plate but I wanted to ask someone who has owned an AUG what I need to look out for in terms of losing compression. I am hoping that the crack hasn't made it lose some power. Anyway I figure I should just make the best of this one rather than not having it for the weekend and sending it off to the UPS firing squad. Also Airsoft Atlanta gives me 5 days to let them know if it is defective so hopefully you can scope it out at the game and tell me if its behavior is normal for a stock AUG. Anyway I am looking forward to Saturday, should be fun!

I believe my crack came from the bottom screw closest to the butt plate which allowed both halves to seperate making the gearbox not sit properly inside the gun.
All guns have a hop-up feature on it. Yours is where the bolt would be. You can remove the rubber piece and place it on the other side if you want. It exposes the hop up which you turn either up or down. Usually down for hop and up for decline. You'll just have to find that sweet spot and ajust accordingly during a firefight. Switching that rubber piece allows you to just adjust without taking your eyes off the target. I would use .20s for now but .25 will be okay. I'm not sure what your FPS is but .25 are good for 370 and up. You'll get flyers here and there it's just part of the sport. Wind, hopup, and placement of the hopup are the concerns. I switched my original barrel with a tighter one and it jumped my FPS quite a bit and stabilized the bb's a bit too. Average engagment is between 100-200 FT.

Thx JiNX. Yeah, that is where my small crack is though both haves are attached securly at this point. I think the crack could probably even be glued perhaps. It is pretty small but my concern is it is right at a point where there will be stress since the butt plate comes off all the time for battery switching. I was adjusting hop up too and it was not seeming to make too much a difference. Man I hope I didn't get a dud, what a disaster that would be. I am skeptical that this gun is gonna hold its own at 100-200 feet the way it is now. I'll give it a shot and see though on Saturday, if you guys think it is behaving normally for a stock gun I will get the upgrades ASAP.
